Thirty AASL members receive Bound To Stay Bound grants to attend first national conference

CHICAGO – Thirty members of the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) have been awarded a $750 travel grant to attend their first AASL national conference. Generously sponsored by Bound To Stay Bound Books, Inc. (BTSB), the grants will allow recipients to secure housing, transportation and/or registration for the AASL National Conference & Exhibition taking place Nov. 9-11, 2017, in Phoenix, Ariz.

ESLS call for proposals and papers

CHICAGO – The Educators of School Librarians Section (ESLS) of the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) invites submissions for proposals for papers on original research focusing on school library practice or school librarianship. Selected papers will be presented in a concurrent session at the AASL National Conference & Exhibition to be held from Nov. 9-11, 2017, in Phoenix, Arizona. In addition, the selected papers will be automatically considered for publication in School Library Research (SLR) (pending the journal's peer review process).

2018 ALA Annual Conference Program Proposals are Now Open

ALA Conference Services will begin accepting program proposals on May 17, 2017 for the 2018 ALA Annual Conference to take place at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans LA, June 21-26, 2018. For the first time, proposals will be accepted via one submission site for all ALA Divisions, RoundTables, Committees and Offices.

Programs at the Annual Conference are one-hour educational sessions on a topic relevant to the library profession. Submissions are open to anyone, regardless of ALA membership status. 

Spend an afternoon with Jordan Sonnenblick during AASL National Conference

CHICAGO – Jordan Sonnenblick will appear as one of three featured speakers during “Authors in the Afternoon” presented during the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) National Conference & Exhibition. Sonnenblick, along with Sarah Dessen and Christian Robinson, will discuss his work and answer attendee-submitted questions during this new author event taking place Thursday, Nov. 9. Jonathan Safran Foer among the authors at United for Libraries Gala Author Tea, sponsored by ReferenceUSA

BRYN MAWR, Pennsylvania — Jonathan Safran Foer will join Allison Pataki, Elly Griffiths, Brianna Wolfson, A.J. Finn, and Celeste Ng at the United for Libraries Gala Author Tea, sponsored by ReferenceUSA, from 2-4 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 26 at the ALA Annual Conference in Chicago.

A light offering of tea, finger sandwiches and a variety of sweet treats will be served. A book signing will follow. United for Libraries will recognize the winners of the Baker & Taylor Awards during the program.

Join EMIERT to explore Chicago’s historic Chinatown during ALA Annual Conference

CHICAGO - Join the American Library Association (ALA) Ethnic and Multicultural Information Exchange Round Table (EMIERT) as it explores Chicago’s iconic Chinatown as part of EMIERT’s ongoing Taste of the Town series of tours.
