YALSA names 2014 Amazing Audiobooks for Young Adults

PHILADELPHIA The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), announced its 2014 Amazing Audiobooks for Young Adults list. The list for those ages 12-18 is drawn from the previous two years of spoken-word releases and presented annually at the ALA Midwinter Meeting. YALSA names 2014 Fabulous Films for Young Adults

PHILADELPHIA The Young Adult library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), today announced its 2014 Fabulous Films for Young Adults list. The list identifies a body of films relating to a theme that will appeal to young adults ages 12-18 and is presented annually at the ALA Midwinter Meeting.

'The Nazi Hunters' wins 2014 YALSA Award for Excellence in Nonfiction for Young Adults

PHILADELPHIA — “The Nazi Hunters: How a Team of Spies and Survivors Captured the World’s Most Notorious Nazi” written by Philadelphia author, Neal Bascomb, published by Arthur A. Levine Books, an imprint of Scholastic Inc., has been named the 2014 winner of the YALSA Award for Excellence in Nonfiction for Young Adults, the first national award that honors the best nonfiction books for teens.

'Midwinterblood' wins 2014 Printz Award

PHILADELPHIA — “Midwinterblood,” written by Marcus Sedgwick and published by Roaring Brook Press, an imprint of Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group, has won the 2014 Michael L. Printz Award for Excellence in Young Adult Literature. The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) announced the winner during the ALA Midwinter Meeting, held Jan. 24 – 28 in Philadelphia.

'Charm & Strange' wins 2014 William C. Morris Award

PHILADELPHIA — “Charm & Strange” written by Stephanie Kuehn, published by St. Martin’s Griffin, an imprint of St. Martin’s Press, a division of Macmillan, has been named the 2014 winner of the William C. Morris Award, which honors a book written for young adults by a previously unpublished author. The award was presented by the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) at the American Library Association’s Midwinter Meeting held Jan. 24 – 28 in Philadelphia.

YALSA announces 2014 Alex Awards

PHILADELPHIA — The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), has selected 10 adult books with special appeal to teen readers to receive the 2014 Alex Awards. The awards, sponsored by the Margaret A. Edwards Trust and Booklist, were announced today at the ALA Midwinter Meeting in Philadelphia, Jan. 24 – 28.

Holley wins YALSA/ABC-CLIO/Greenwood Service to Young Adults Achievement Award

CHICAGO — The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA)  awarded the YALSA/ABC-CLIO/Greenwood Service to Young Adults Achievement Award to Pam Spencer Holley. The $2,000 award, given every other year, recognizes a YALSA member who has demonstrated unique and sustained devotion to young adult services through substantial work in several initiatives.

McDonald named YALSA’s 2014 Board Fellow

CHICAGO — The Board of Directors of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA) chose Nicola McDonald, senior librarian at Brooklyn Public Library, as its 2014-2015 Board Fellow. McDonald will begin serving as board fellow on June 30, 2014.

YALSA’s new report is a call to action for the library community to meet the needs of 21st century teens

YALSA announces 2014 YALSA Award for Excellence in Nonfiction for Young Adults finalists

CHICAGO — The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), selected five books as finalists for the 2014 YALSA Award for Excellence in Nonfiction for Young Adults, which honors the best nonfiction books written for young adults between Nov. 1, 2012 and Oct. 31, 2013. YALSA will name the 2014 award winner at the Youth Media Awards on Jan. 27, in Philadelphia during the American Library Association’s Midwinter Meeting.
