Young Adult Library Services wins fifth APEX Award

CHICAGO — Communications Concepts honored Young Adult Library Services (YALS), the quarterly journal of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) with its fifth Award of Excellence from the APEX Awards for Publication Excellence.

YALS was recognized in the category of Print Journals and Magazines over 32 pages. The journal won for its Winter 2012 issue, which focused on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) content in libraries. Megan Honig edited the issue.

Beyond the birds and the bees: what to do when teens talk sex in the library

CHICAGO — Three new titles in the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) Teens @ the Library Series, from Neal-Schuman Publishers, help YA librarians hone their skills and improve their programs to serve teens more effectively.  

YALSA releases new Teen Space Guidelines

CHICAGO — The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association, published a new set of national guidelines on teen spaces. The Teen Space Guidelines offer library staff a blueprint for creating effective, welcoming spaces for teens in libraries and online using library websites and social media. The guidelines are available on the YALSA website, with a PDF version available for library staff to print and use during training sessions.

YALSA and the Dollar General Literacy Foundation award grants to 40 Libraries

Grants to fund summer internships for teens at libraries

CHICAGO  — The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), is pleased to announce the winners of its Teen Summer Internship Program Grants, which are funded by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.  Forty libraries are receiving $1,000 to help fund summer internships for teens.

YALSA seeks proposals for Trends Impacting Young Adult Services paper presentation at Midwinter Meeting

CHICAGO — The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association, seeks proposals for its Trends Impacting Young Adult Services Paper Presentation, sponsored by YALSA’s past presidents and held at Midwinter Meeting. Proposals are due by June 1. The presenter will receive up to $1,500 to defray travel and registration costs.  The paper will be published in YALSA’s peer-reviewed Journal of Research on Libraries and Young Adults after the conference.
