Harris named 2018-2019 YALSA Spectrum Scholar

CHICAGO —The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) has named Cearra Harris as its 2018-2019 Spectrum Scholar.

Harris’ career began at Richland Library in Columbia, SC. While working at Richland Library, Harris fell in love with programming, and developed a strong passion for serving the at-risk community. She is currently the Teen Services Specialist at the Charlotte (North Carolina) Mecklenburg Library and is pursuing an MLIS at University of North Carolina-Greensboro.

Taylor-Cloud wins stipend to attend YALSA’s 2018 YA Services Symposium

CHICAGO — Kimberly Taylor-Cloud, a Youth Services Librarian at the Fairburn Branch Library of the Atlanta-Fulton (Georgia) Public Library System, has won the 2018 Young Adult Services Symposium library worker stipend from the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA). The stipend will provide Taylor-Cloud with up to $1,000 to offset travel expenses to attend the 2018 Young Adult Services Symposium, which will be held Nov. 2–4 in Salt Lake City, UT.

DOGObooks and YALSA partner for 2018 Teens’ Top Ten voting

CHICAGO, IL – The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) has announced that it will be partnering with DOGObooks, the largest website for kids and teen books, to host the voting for the 2018 Teens’ Top Ten.

YALSA announces cohort 3 participants of Future Ready with the Library project

CHICAGO — The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) has announced the 24 participants of the last cohort of its Future Ready with the Library project. The project is funded by the Institute of Museum & Library Services and implemented in partnership with the Association for Rural and Small Libraries.

Shortley wins student stipend for YALSA’s 2018 YA Services Symposium

CHICAGO – Ness Shortley, a student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has won the 2018 Young Adult Services Symposium student stipend from the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA). The stipend will provide Shortley with up to $1,000 to offset travel expenses to attend the 2018 YA Services Symposium, which will be held Nov. 2-4 in Salt Lake City, UT.

2018 Teen Read Week™ Grant recipients announced

CHICAGO — The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), has announced the recipients of its 2018 Teen Read Week™ Activity Grant.

The grant was generously funded by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation and was awarded to ten libraries to help fund their literacy-focused Teen Read Week activities, which will help support innovative reading or literacies programs for and with the teens in their community. Each grant is worth $1,000.

YALSA introduces new Innovation in Teen Services Award
