YALSA launches Website to promote teen summer reading

CHICAGO - The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) is launching the 2013 Teen Summer Reading Programs website. As the hub for summer reading and summer learning, the website offers a place to go to exchange information and ideas to help them implement programs for and with teens.

YALSA and Best Buy Mobile partner to Support Digital Library Services for Teens

CHICAGO – During the American Library Association’s (ALA) 2013 Midwinter Meeting in Seattle from Jan. 25 to 29, 2013, the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) announced a partnership with Best Buy to administer donations that will expand programs and improve digital services for teens in libraries across the country.

“This partnership is so important to YALSA because it helps us make strides towards fulfilling our mission of expanding and strengthening library services for and with teens,” said Jack Martin, YALSA president.

YALSA names 2013 Quick Picks for Reluctant Young Adult Readers

SEATTLE —The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA a division of the American Library Association (ALA), announced its 2013 Quick Picks for Reluctant Young Adult Readers selection list. The list is presented annually at the ALA Midwinter Meeting.

The Quick Picks list suggests books that teens, ages 12-18, will pick up on their own and read for pleasure; it is geared to the teenager who, for whatever reason, does not like to read.

YALSA names 2013 Popular Paperbacks for Young Adults

SEATTLE — The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), announced its 2013 list of Popular Paperbacks for Young Adults (PPYA). The list, drawn from official nominations, is presented annually at the ALA Midwinter Meeting. YALSA names 2013 Great Graphic Novels for Teens

SEATTLE — The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), announced its 2013 Great Graphic Novels for Teens. The list of 55 titles, drawn from 98 official nominations, is presented annually at the ALA Midwinter Meeting. The books, recommended for those ages 12-18, meet the criteria of both good quality literature and appealing reading for teens. YALSA names 2013 Best Fiction for Young Adults

SEATTLE — The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), announced its 2013 list of Best Fiction for Young Adults (BFYA). This year’s list of 102 books was drawn from 200 official nominations.

The list for those ages 12-18 is drawn from the previous two years of spoken-word releases and presented annually at the ALA Midwinter Meeting. YALSA names 2013 Fabulous Films for Young Adults

SEATTLE– The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), announced its 2013 Fabulous Films for Young Adults list. The list identifies a body of films relating to a theme that will appeal to young adults ages 12-18 and is presented annually at the ALA Midwinter Meeting.

'In Darkness' wins 2013 Printz Award

SEATTLE — “In Darkness,” written by Nick Lake and published by Bloomsbury Books for Young Readers,has won the 2013 Michael L. Printz Award for Excellence in Young Adult Literature. The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) today announced the winner during the ALA Midwinter Meeting, held Jan. 24–29 in Seattle.
