PHILADELPHIA — United for Libraries is asking library friends, foundations, trustees and all library advocates to support filmmakers Dawn Logsdon and Lucie Faulknor (Serendipity Films) as they ask library lovers across America to help them make the first-ever national broadcast documentary about our nation’s public libraries.
PHILADELPHIA — United for Libraries, in partnership with the Suffolk County Library Association, Suffolk School Library Media Association, Lambda Literary Foundation and Empire State Center for the Book, designated the Walt Whitman Birthplace State Historic Site & Interpretive Center in Huntington Station, N.Y., a Literary Landmark™ during a celebration on Friday, Sept. 5.

National Friends of Libraries Week offers a two-fold opportunity to celebrate Friends – promoting the group in the community, raising awareness and increasing membership and also giving libraries and boards of trustees the opportunity to recognize the Friends for their help and support of the library.
PHILADELPHIA — United for Libraries is accepting applications for the United for Libraries/SAGE Academic Friend Conference Grant through Jan. 15, 2015.
The United for Libraries/SAGE Academic Friend Conference Grants will enable two academic Friends to attend the 2015 ALA Annual Conference in San Francisco. Applications must be either active in their college or university Friends of the Library group, or be academic library staff members who works in development. A grant of $850, plus full Annual Conference registration, will be awarded to each recipient.
PHILADELPHIA — Hundreds of Friends of the Library groups, Foundations and Boards of Trustees in Texas are now group members of United for Libraries, thanks to a statewide membership purchase by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. Texas joins Nebraska, Kansas and North Dakota in purchasing memberships for the libraries in their states.

PHILADELPHIA — Clarkston (Mich.) Independence District Library, a recipient of United for Libraries' 2013 Neal-Schuman Foundation Grants, successfully staved off closure by passing a millage of 1.25 for the library on Aug. 5. The millage, which was proposed but not passed in 2012, passed this time with more than 68 percent of the vote.

PHILADELPHIA — Three groups have been recognized with United for Libraries’ Baker & Taylor Awards for outstanding efforts to support their library. This year’s winners are Friends of the Weber County Library (Ogden, Utah), Friends of the Peoria (Ariz.) Public Library and Danville (Ill.) Library Foundation. Each group receives $1,000 and a clock from Baker & Taylor to honor their achievements.
