PHILADELPHIA — Hundreds of Friends of the Library groups, Foundations and Boards of Trustees in Texas are group members of United for Libraries and the American Library Association (ALA), thanks to a statewide membership purchase by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. Texas joins Nebraska and Kansas in purchasing memberships for the libraries in their states.
CHICAGO — In celebration of Children’s Book Week (May 4-10, 2015) United for Libraries will dedicate five Literary Landmarks™ celebrating children’s book authors. This program was spearheaded by Rocco Staino of the Empire State Center for the Book and is presented in conjunction with the Children’s Book Council.

CHICAGO — Joshua Davis, author of “Spare Parts” (now a major motion picture), will be a featured speaker at the United for Libraries President’s Program, “From Cover to Screen - Books to Movies,” at the ALA Annual Conference in San Francisco on Monday, June 29, 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.
Join United for Libraries President Christine Lind Hage for this program, which will also feature Rick Jacobs, producer of “Spare Parts,” and esteemed film critic David Thomson, author of “How to Watch a Movie” (Random House, November 2015).
PHILADELPHIA — At the ALA Midwinter Meeting, the ALA Council passed a resolution urging all library directors to encourage and support United for Libraries memberships for each of their trustees. The resolution was supported by the Public Library Association (PLA), the Library Leadership and Management Association (LLAMA) and United for Libraries.
PHILADELPHIA -- Friends of A.K. Smiley Public Library (Redlands, California) and Friends of the Logan County (Kentucky) Library are winners of United for Libraries’ 2014 National Friends of Libraries Week Awards. Friends of Fondulac Library (East Peoria, Illinois) and Friends of Chelsea (Michigan) District Library earned honorable mentions for their efforts.
