Cardenas-Dow named 2013 ACRL/LLAMA Presidents’ Program leadership moment contest winner

Cummings named CHOICE editor and publisher

CHICAGO — Mark Cummings has been named editor and publisher of CHOICE Magazine, the premier source for reviews of academic books, electronic media and Internet resources in higher education. CHOICE, a publication of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), is headquartered in Middletown, Conn. Cummings will serve as CHOICE editor and publisher designate beginning June 17, 2013 and assume the position full time effective July 7, 2013, upon the retirement of Irving E. Rockwood, who served CHOICE in this position for 17 years.

Karen Williams elected ACRL vice-president/president-elect

CHICAGO — Karen Williams, associate university librarian for research and learning at the University of Minnesota, has been elected ACRL vice-president/president-elect. She will become president-elect following the 2013 ALA Annual Conference in Chicago, and assume the presidency in July 2014 for a one-year term.

ACRL 2013 draws more than 4,800 to Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS — NPR’s Maria Hinojosa brought ACRL 2013 to a close, as more than 4,800 library staff, exhibitors, speakers and guests from 50 states and 19 countries met from April 10 – 13 at the Indiana Convention Center to discuss the changing role of academic libraries.

WASHINGTON, D.C.- The Supreme Court has announced its much-anticipated decision in Kirtsaeng v. Wiley, a lawsuit regarding the bedrock principle of the first sale doctrine. The 6-3 opinion is a total victory for libraries and our users. It vindicates the foundational principle of the first sale doctrine — if you bought it, you own it.
