James L. Mullins wins 2016 Hugh C. Atkinson Memorial Award

CHICAGO — James L. Mullins, dean of libraries and Esther Ellis Norton professor at Purdue University, has been named the 2016 winner of the Hugh C. Atkinson Memorial Award. Mullins will receive a cash award and citation during the ALA Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida.

Named in honor of one of the pioneers of library automation, the Atkinson Award recognizes an academic librarian who has made significant contributions in the area of library automation or management and has made notable improvements in library services or research.

New ACRL publication: 2014 Academic Library Trends and Statistics

CHICAGOThe Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) announces the publication of “2014 Academic Library Trends and Statistics,” the latest in a series of annual publications that describe the collections, staffing, expenditures, and service activities of academic libraries in all Carnegie classifications. The three-volume set includes Associate of Arts institutions, Master's Colleges and Universities/Baccalaureate Colleges and Research/Doctoral-granting Institutions.

Brumfield named 2016 Routledge Distance Learning Librarianship Conference Sponsorship Award winner

CHICAGO – Elizabeth Brumfield, distance services librarian at Prairie View A&M University, has been named the 2016 recipient of the Routledge Distance Learning Librarianship Conference Sponsorship Award.

This annual award, sponsored by Routledge/Taylor & Francis Group, and administrated by the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Distance Learning Section (DLS), honors an ACRL member working in the field of, or contributing to, the success of distance learning librarianship or related library service in higher education.

Holliday wins 2016 ACRL/IS Miriam Dudley Instruction Librarian Award

CHICAGO – Wendy Holliday, head of teaching, learning and research services at Northern Arizona University, is the winner of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Instruction Section’s (IS) Miriam Dudley Instruction Librarian Award. The award honors Miriam Dudley, whose efforts in the field of information literacy led to the formation of IS. The honor recognizes a librarian who has made a significant contribution to the advancement of instruction in a college or research library environment.

Pearl Ly receives ACRL CJCLS EBSCO Community College Learning Resources Leadership Award

CHICAGO – The Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) is pleased to announce that Pearl Ly, director of the learning commons at Skyline College in San Bruno, California, has been chosen to receive the 2016 Community and Junior College Libraries Section (CJCLS) EBSCO Community College Learning Resources Leadership Award.

The $750 award and plaque, donated by EBSCO Information Services, will be presented to Ly at the 2016 ALA Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida.

Bill Mickey named editorial director for Choice

MIDDLETOWN, CONNECTICUT –  Bill Mickey has been named editorial director of Choice, effective immediately. Choice, a publishing unit of the Association of College and Research Libraries (a division of the American Library Association) is the publisher of Choice magazine, the premier source for reviews of new English-language books and digital resources for academic libraries.

Jagman and Swanson receive 2016 ACRL Instruction Section Ilene F. Rockman Publication of the Year Award

CHICAGO – Heather Jagman, coordinator of reference, instruction and academic engagement at DePaul University; and Troy A. Swanson, department chair, library and teaching and learning librarian at Moraine Valley Community College, have been chosen as the winners of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Instruction Section (IS) Ilene F. Rockman Publication of the Year Award as editors of the book “Not Just Where to Click: Teaching Students How to Think about Information” published in 2015 by ACRL.

Kahl named 2016 Marta Lange/SAGE-CQ Press Award winner

CHICAGO – Chad Kahl, interim associate dean for public services and information technology at Illinois State University, has been awarded the 2016 Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Law and Political Science Section (LPSS) Marta Lange/SAGE-CQ Press Award. The award, established in 1996 by LPSS, honors an academic or law librarian who has made distinguished contributions to bibliography and information service in law or political science.

Merolli receives ACRL CLS Innovation in College Librarianship Award

CHICAGO – Barbara Merolli, science librarian at the College of the Holy Cross, has been named the 2016 recipient of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) College Libraries Section (CLS) Innovation in College Librarianship Award for her work on the “Drawing on Walls” program.

This annual award honors ALA members who have demonstrated a capacity for innovation in their work with undergraduates, instructors, and/or the library community.
