Introduce Henry Rollins at ACRL 2013

CHICAGO — The Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) is holding a video contest in advance of the ACRL 2013 conference, to be held April 10-13, 2013, in Indianapolis. The association is seeking video applications from academic and research librarians to introduce keynote speaker Henry Rollins. The winner will prepare and present a five-minute live introduction of Rollins at the conference on April 11, meet Rollins in person and receive an invitation to the conference chairs’ reception at the Eiteljorg Museum.

Apply now for ACRL 2013 scholarships

CHICAGO — The Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) is offering 70 scholarships in five categories worth more than $40,000 for the upcoming ACRL 2013 conference to be held April 10-13, 2013, in Indianapolis. Applications for scholarships in all categories are due Nov. 9, 2012. Complete details on each scholarship category and application instructions are available on the ACRL 2013 website.

Register now for 2012 Women’s Leadership Institute

CHICAGO — The Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) is collaborating with higher education associations to offer the 2012 Women’s Leadership Institute. This year’s institute will be held Nov. 27-30, 2012, in Dana Point, Calif. and Dec. 2-5, 2012, in Amelia Island, Fla. The discounted early-bird registration deadline for the institute is Oct. 17 for the California program and Oct. 24 for the Florida program.

ACRL Value of Academic Libraries Initiative moves forward with roadmap from national summits

CHICAGO —The Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) has released a white paper, “Connect, Collaborate, and Communicate: A Report from the Value of Academic Libraries Summits (PDF 4971 KB),” which reports on two invitational summits supported by a National Leadership Collaborative Planning Grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The white paper is freely available from the ACRL Value of Academic Libraries website.

Panel to explore whistleblower protection at Annual Conference

CHICAGO — What is the line between protecting society and defending the truth? The ALA Social Responsibilities Round Table (SRRT) and the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Law and Political Science Section (LPSS) will present “National Security vs. the Right to Know,” a panel discussion during the 2012 ALA Annual Conference that will address the potential conflict between security concerns and the requirements of transparency, democracy, free press and the protection of whistleblowers.
