ALSC, PLA receive IMLS grant to measure impact of early literacy programming

CHICAGO – The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) and the Public Library Association (PLA), both divisions of the American Library Association, have received a three-year National Leadership Project Grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).

Dollar General Literacy Foundation awards Youth Literacy grant to ALSC, YALSA

CHICAGO — The Dollar General Literacy Foundation has awarded a Youth Literacy grant in the amount of ­­$246,806 to the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) and the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA).

ALSC and YALSA will use the grant to support three important initiatives, El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Children's Day/Book Day), Teen Read Week™ and summer reading for teens.

ALSC accepting applications for Día Family Book Club mini-grants

CHICAGO — The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) is now accepting applications for mini-grants intended to allow libraries to initiate Día Family Book Club programs. Mini-grants are part of ALSC’s Everyone Reads @ your library grant, generously funded by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.

ALSC now accepting applications for 2014 Bookapalooza Program

CHICAGO - The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) and the Grants Administration Committee are now accepting online applications for the 2014 Bookapalooza Program. This program offers select libraries a collection of materials to be used in a way that creatively enhances their library service to children and families. The materials are primarily for children age birth through 14 and include newly published books, videos, audio books and recordings from children’s trade publishers.

CHICAGO - The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association, has added more sites to Great Websites for Kids, its online resource containing hundreds of links to exceptional websites for children.

Registration for fall 2013 ALSC online courses open

CHICAGO - The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) opened registration for fall 2013 ALSC online courses. Registration is open for all courses. Classes begin Monday, Oct. 7, 2013.

This fall, ALSC is offering four courses that are eligible for certified education units (CEUs). The American Library Association (ALA) has been certified to provide CEUs by the International Association of Continuing Education and Training (IACET)

ALSC now accepting applications for 2014 Maureen Hayes Author/Illustrator Award

CHICAGO — The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) and the Grants Administration Committee are now accepting online applications for the 2014 Maureen Hayes Author/Illustrator Award. This $4,000 award, made possible by an annual gift from Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing in honor of Maureen Hayes, brings together children and nationally recognized authors/illustrators by funding an author/illustrator visit to a library.

ALSC now accepting applications for 2014 Baker & Taylor Summer Reading Grant

CHICAGO - The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) and the Grants Administration Committee are now accepting online applications for the 2014 ALSC/Baker & Taylor Summer Reading Grant. This $3,000 grant, made possible by Baker & Taylor, is designed to encourage reading programs for children in public libraries, while recognizing ALSC members for outstanding program development.

ALSC and LEGO® DUPLO® invite you to thank your public library for making summer reading fun

CHICAGO - The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) and LEGO® DUPLO® continue to support constructive play in libraries through the 2013 LEGO DUPLO Read! Build! Play! giveaway.  The two organizations invite parents, children, teachers, community members and everyone in between to “thank” their local public library for their great summer programs.

ALSC dues changes go into effect Sept. 1

CHICAGO - The Association for Library Service for Children reminded members and prospective members to be aware of an upcoming dues change. The change will take place on Sept. 1, 2013.
