ALSC now accepting applications for 2014 Baker & Taylor Summer Reading Grant

CHICAGO - The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) and the Grants Administration Committee are now accepting online applications for the 2014 ALSC/Baker & Taylor Summer Reading Grant. This $3,000 grant, made possible by Baker & Taylor, is designed to encourage reading programs for children in public libraries, while recognizing ALSC members for outstanding program development.

Each applicant will be judged on the following:

ALSC and LEGO® DUPLO® invite you to thank your public library for making summer reading fun

CHICAGO - The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) and LEGO® DUPLO® continue to support constructive play in libraries through the 2013 LEGO DUPLO Read! Build! Play! giveaway.  The two organizations invite parents, children, teachers, community members and everyone in between to “thank” their local public library for their great summer programs.

ALSC dues changes go into effect Sept. 1

CHICAGO - The Association for Library Service for Children reminded members and prospective members to be aware of an upcoming dues change. The change will take place on Sept. 1, 2013.

ALSC offers William C. Morris Seminar: Book Evaluation Training at Midwinter 2014

CHICAGO — The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) is seeking applications for its third biennial “Bill Morris Seminar: Book Evaluation Training,” to be held on Friday, January 24, 2014, prior to the ALA Midwinter Meeting in Philadelphia.  This invitational seminar supports and honors William C. Morris’ dedication to connecting librarians and children with excellent children’s books. 

ALSC names more Great Websites for Kids

CHICAGO — The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association, has added more outstanding websites to Great Websites for Kids, its online resource containing hundreds of links to exceptional websites for children.

ALSC now accepting applications for 2014 Penguin Young Readers Group Award

CHICAGO — The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) and the Grants Administration Committee are now accepting online applications for the 2014 Penguin Young Readers Group Awards.  This award, made possible by an annual gift from Penguin Young Readers Group, provides a $600 stipend to up to four children's librarians to attend their first ALA Annual Conference in Las Vegas.

University of Minnesota Children's Literature Research Collection to host 2014 Arbuthnot Lecture

CHICAGO — The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) announced that the 2014 May Hill Arbuthnot Committee has chosen the University of Minnesota's Children's Literature Research Collections as the site for the 2014 May Hill Honor Lecture featuring Andrea Davis Pinkney.

ALSC now accepting applications for 2014 Bechtel Fellowship

CHICAGO — The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) and the Special Collections and Bechtel Fellowship Committee are now accepting online applications for the 2014 Louise Seaman Bechtel Fellowship.  The Bechtel Fellowship is designed to allow qualified children’s librarians to spend a total of four weeks or more reading and studying at the Baldwin Library of Historical Children’s Literature, a part of the George A.

ALSC announces new mentoring program

CHICAGO — The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) announced the beginning of a new mentoring program this fall. The program, which is open to members and non-members, is intended to help build a new collection of leaders in the field of library service to children. Applications are now open for both mentors and mentees. Registration ends on Friday, August 30, 2013.

CHICAGO — The most prestigious award for children's book illustration in the U.S., the Caldecott Medal has been presented annually by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association, since 1938.
