ALSC awards mini-grants to 15 libraries to start Día Family Book Clubs

CHICAGO - The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) has awarded 15 libraries mini-grants to start their own Día Family Book Club. These clubs will utilize multi-cultural, multi-lingual or second language books to provide an opportunity for families in  their community to come together. The mini-grants are part of ALSC’s Everyone Reads @ your library grant, generously funded by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.

ALSC selects more Great Websites for Kids

CHICAGO — The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association, has added more sites to Great Websites for Kids, its online resource containing hundreds of links to exceptional websites for children.

Registration open for Winter 2014 ALSC Online Courses

CHICAGO - The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) encourages participants to sign up for the Winter 2013 ALSC online courses. Registration is open for all courses. Classes begin Monday, Jan. 6, 2014.

2014 ALSC Penguin Young Readers Group Award winners

CHICAGO — The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) has awarded the 2014 Penguin Young Readers Group Award to JoAnna Schofield, Akron-Summit County Public Library, Akron, Ohio; Rikki Unterbrink, Amos Memorial Library, Sidney, Ohio; Amanda Yother, Putnam County Library, Cookeville, Tenn.; and Emily Dumas, Commerce Township (Mich.) Community Library, Commerce Township. 

ALSC releases Tween Recommended Reads list

CHICAGO - The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), has created a Tween Recommended Reads booklist, intended to engage and encourage tweens to read throughout the year.

The Tween Recommended Reads list includes 25 titles chosen specifically to appeal to tweens and to encourage them to read. PDFs of the booklist are available online in full color and black and white and are free to download, copy and distribute. 

Natalie Ziarnik receives 2014 Bechtel Fellowship

CHICAGO — The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) and the Special Collections and Bechtel Fellowship Committee have awarded the 2014 Louise Seaman Bechtel Fellowship to Natalie Ziarnik.

Registration opens for 2014 National Día Program Registry

CHICAGO - The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) is inviting librarians to register their 2014 El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Children’s Day/Book Day) programs in the Día National Program Registry.

ALSC announces Graphic Novels Reading List

CHICAGO — The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), has created Graphic Novel Reading Lists intended for children from kindergarten through 8th grade.   

Registration for 2014 ALSC National Institute opens November 11

CHICAGO — The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) announced that registration for the 2014 ALSC National Institute will open Monday, November 11, 2013. The conference, themed "Expanding Our Worlds, Creating Community," will be held September 18-20, 2014 in Oakland, Calif. 

ALSC names Soraya Silverman-Montano as 2014 Emerging Leader

CHICAGO — The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) announced Soraya Silverman-Montano of the Las Vegas Clark-County (Nev.) Library District as its representative in the 2014 Emerging Leader program. Silverman-Montano is currently the Young People’s Library Librarian at the Summerlin Branch of the Las Vegas Clark-County Library District.
