2018 Bill Morris Seminar Applications Now Open!

ALSC is now seeking applications for the 2018 ALSC Bill Morris Seminar: Book Evaluation to be held on Friday, February 9, 2018, prior to the ALA Midwinter Meeting in Denver, Co.  The seminar will be facilitated by ALSC member leaders including past committee members and chairs of evaluation committees, and will focus on children’s book and media evaluation.

Western Washington University and the Whatcom County Library System chosen as site for 2018 Arbuthnot Lecture

CHICAGO — The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) announced that the 2018 May Hill Arbuthnot Committee has selected the Western Washington University and Whatcom County Library System to serve as the host site for the 2018 May Hill Arbuthnot Honor Lecture featuring Naomi Shihab Nye. The lecture will be held in the spring of 2018.

Libraries fuel cultural understanding and acceptance through Día, April 30

CHICAGO – On April 30, hundreds of libraries across the country will celebrate Día, a national library program that fosters literacy for all children from all backgrounds. Demographic projections show more than half of the country’s children will be part of a minority race or ethnic group in the next few years, and programs such as Día play a critical role in helping meet the needs of an increasingly diverse population, while also fueling cultural understanding and acceptance.

Naidoo elected ALSC 2018-2019 president

Jamie Campbell Naidoo, Ph.D., Foster-EBSCO Professor at The University of Alabama School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS), Tuscaloosa, has been elected vice president/president-elect of the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA). In accordance with the Leadership Transition Plan adopted by the ALSC Board of Directors in March, Naidoo assumes his duties as ALSC vice president immediately.
