ALSC announces Summer Reading book lists for K-8th grade

CHICAGO - The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), has created three Summer Reading book lists, which feature recommended book titles for Kindergarten through 8th grade students.

Brown, Nelson to take part in Caldecott 75th Anniversary Facebook Forums

CHICAGO - The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) is excited to announce two more 75th Caldecott Facebook Forums. In March, ALSC will host Peter Brown and in April, Kadir Nelson will be the guest.

Peter Brown will participate in a Caldecott 75th Anniversary Facebook Forum at 1 p.m. Eastern on Thursday, March 28, 2013. In June, Brown will be awarded a 2013 Caldecott Honor as the illustrator for "Creepy Carrots!," written by Aaron Reynolds (Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers).

Vogel, Wick, Smith, Vernola receive Penguin Young Readers Group Award

CHICAGO — The Association for Library Service to Children has awarded the 2013 Penguin Young Readers Group Award to Janet Vogel, Frederick (Md.) County Public Libraries; Krissy Wick, Madison (Wis.) Public Library; Heather Smith, Eastern Lancaster County Library, New Holland, Pa.; and Andrea Vernola, Kalamazoo (Mich.) Public Library.

Salt Lake County PL receives 2013 Hayes Award

CHICAGO — The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) has awarded the 2013 Maureen Hayes Author/Illustrator Visit Award to the Salt Lake County Library Services, West Jordan, Utah.

The award, sponsored by Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing, is designed to provide up to $4,000 to an ALSC member library to fund a visit from an author/illustrator who will speak to children who might otherwise not have had the opportunity to hear from a nationally known author/illustrator.

ALSC announces 2013 Notable Children's Recordings

CHICAGO — The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), has selected its 2013 list of Notable Children’s Recordings. The list includes recordings for children 14 years of age and younger of especially commendable quality that demonstrate respect for young people’s intelligence and imagination; exhibit venturesome creativity; and reflect and encourage the interests of children and young adolescents in exemplary ways.
