CHICAGO – Marianne Swanberry-Hanley, assistant librarian/assistant conservator at Syracuse University’s Bird Library, has been awarded the Jan Merrill-Oldham Professional Development Grant.

HARRASSOWITZ Leadership in Library Acquisitions Award to Rick Anderson

CHICAGO —  The Acquisitions Section of the Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) has selected Rick Anderson, interim dean and  university librarian at the University Utah’s Marriott Library, to receive the 2013 HARRASSOWITZ Leadership in Library Acquisitions Award.  The award will be presented on Sunday, June 30, at the ALCTS Awards Ceremony during the 2013 American Library Association (ALA) Annual

Lizabeth A. Wilson wins 2013 Hugh C. Atkinson Memorial award

CHICAGO — Lizabeth (Betsy) A. Wilson, dean of university libraries at the University of Washington (UW), has been named the 2013 winner of the Hugh C. Atkinson Memorial Award. Wilson will receive a cash award and citation during the ALA Annual Conference in Chicago.

Named in honor of one of the pioneers of library automation, the Atkinson Award recognizes an academic librarian who has made significant contributions in the area of library automation or management, and has made notable improvements in library services or research.

CHICAGO — Erin McKean, founder of Wordnik.com and the former editor-in-chief of American Dictionaries for Oxford University Press, is the featured speaker at the President’s Program of the Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS).  The President’s Program is at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 1,  during the American Library Association Annual Conference in Chicago.

Steve Berry spokesperson for 2013 Preservation Week

CHICAGO — The Preservation Week adventure continues with New York Times best-selling author Steve Berry as National Spokesperson for Preservation Week for 2013 (April 21-27).  

Author of 10 novels, including seven Cotton Malone books, Berry’s latest work was published last spring, “The Columbus Affair” (Ballantine, May 2012), with new protagonist, Tom Sagan, a disgraced Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist.  His newest novel, “The King’s Deception,” available May, 2013, heralds the return of popular bookseller, Cotton Malone.
