ALCTS president named interim director

CHICAGO — Genevieve Owens, president of the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS), has been named interim director of The Williamsburg (Va.) Regional Library (WRL).  The WRL Board of Trustees has appointed Owens to serve as the library’s interim director effective Jan. 1, 2014. Currently the library assistant director, she will assume her new role with the retirement of current Director Dr. John A. Moorman, an ALA Executive Board member.

Here There Be Dragons: Public Access to Federally Funded Research, an ALCTS Midwinter Symposium

CHICAGO — “Here There Be Dragons:  Public Access to Federally Funded Research,” a Midwinter Symposium from the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS) offers an unique opportunity to explore the complex issues surrounding the collection, organization, delivery and preservation of federally funded research.  

Dec. 1 deadline for ALCTS 2014 publication awards nominations

CHICAGO — Nominations are being accepted for the 2014 Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) awards for excellence in publication. ALCTS presents two publication awards to honor individuals for outstanding achievement in research and writing in the field of library collections and technical services. 

If you are interested in nominating a publication for either of the awards, contact the chair of that award jury. The deadline for nominations and supporting materials is Dec. 1.

CHICAGO — Nominations are being accepted for the 2014 Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) awards for innovation and collaboration. ALCTS presents two awards to honor individuals and/or groups whose work represents the finest achievements and leadership in collaboration and innovation.

CHICAGO - Nominations are being accepted for the 2014 Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) preservation awards. ALCTS presents three preservation awards, through its Preservation and Reformatting Section, to honor individuals whose work represents the finest achievements in research, collaboration, creative work, leadership and service in preservation or to support a new preservation staff member’s participation in preservation activities at the ALA Annual Conference.

CHICAGO — Nominations are being accepted for the 2014 Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) Ross Atkinson Lifetime Achievement Award.  The deadline for nominations is Nov. 15.

CHICAGO — Nominations are being accepted for the 2014 Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) awards for outstanding achievement and promise in the field of serials and continuing resources.  The awards are presented by the Continuing Resources Section of ALCTS.  One award honors an individual who shows outstanding promise in the field of serials, while the other recognizes an individual whose work represents the finest achievements in research, collaboration, creative work, leadership and service.

ALCTS technical services fundamentals Web courses return for 2013–14 academic year

CHICAGO — Registration is now open for the 2013-14 sessions of the popular “Fundamentals” Web courses, offered by the Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS), including the newly redesigned and updated Fundamentals of Acquisitions. Each session is limited to 20 students, and sessions fill up quickly. ALCTS Web courses offer great value at only $109 for ALCTS members and $139 for nonmembers.
