ALCTS seeking Continuing Resources Awards nominations for 2017

CHICAGO —Nominations are being accepted for the 2017 Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) awards for outstanding achievement and promise in the field of serials and continuing resources. The awards are presented by the Continuing Resources Section of ALCTS. One award honors an individual who shows outstanding promise in the field of serials, while the other recognizes an individual whose work represents the finest achievements in research, collaboration, creative work, leadership and service.

ALCTS 2017 Preservation Awards nominations sought

CHICAGO —Nominations are being accepted for the 2017 Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) preservation awards. ALCTS presents three Preservation Awards, through its Preservation and Reformatting Section, to honor individuals whose work represents the finest achievements in research, collaboration, creative work, leadership and service in preservation or to support a new preservation staff member’s participation in preservation activities at the ALA Annual Conference.

New ALCTS Slogan Focuses on Conserving the Past, Building the Future

CHICAGO—On Saturday, June 25, the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS) announced the winner of the ALCTS Slogan Contest at the 2016 ALCTS Membership Meeting and Awards Ceremony at the ALA Annual Conference and Exhibition in Orlando, Fla. Honoring the work of ALCTS in sustaining the past and establishing a solid foundation for the future of technical services, collection management, and preservation, the new slogan, Creating the Future, Preserving the Past, will be used to promote the association and its mission and goals.

New ALCTS monograph examines linked data for cultural heritage

CHICAGO — Linked data is essential for sharing library collections on the open web, especially the digital cultural heritage in the collections of libraries, archives, and museums. “Linked Data for Cultural Heritage” published by ALA Editions, gathers a stellar list of contributors to help readers understand linked data concepts by examining practice and projects based in familiar concepts like authority control.

Thomson elected ALCTS President for 2017-2018

CHICAGO —Mary Beth Thomson, senior associate dean, Collections, Digital Scholarship and Technical Services, University of Kentucky, has been elected the 2017-2018 President of the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS).

She previously held the position of head of Acquisitions and Collection Development at the University of Houston. Thomson holds an M.L.I.S from Louisiana State University and a B.A. from Texas Woman’s University. 

New ALCTS monograph spotlights collaborative stewardship of collections

CHICAGO — Libraries and the organizations that provide services to them are devoting more attention to system-wide organization of collections—whether the "system" is a consortium, a region or a country.  As a strategy for saving space and money while expanding access to additional materials and resources, the value of shared collections is indubitable.
