AASL welcomes Mississippi Association of School Librarians

CHICAGO – During the ALA Midwinter Meeting, the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) approved the Mississippi Association of School Librarians (MsASL) as a chapter of AASL. AASL Chapters are the grassroots representation of AASL members that serve to bring matters occurring at the state and local level to the national-level attention of the AASL Board of Directors.

AASL President holds office hours to discuss EDI in school libraries

CHICAGO – American Association of School Librarians (AASL) President Mary Keeling will hold online offices hours at 6:00 p.m. Central on Thursday, February 6, to field questions regarding equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in school libraries. The EDI office hours are a part of Keeling’s presidential initiative to expand efforts in AASL to provide a safe, respectful, and inclusive space for diverse voices and perspectives.

Lucas and Warmack Seek 2021-2022 AASL Presidency

Gihan Mohamad Wins a Year of Free AASL Membership

CHICAGO – By sharing the wealth of AASL membership with a colleague, Gihan "Gigi" Mohamad has won a free year of AASL membership. Mohamad's name was drawn as a monthly winner of the American Association of School Librarians’ (AASL) Share the Wealth Campaign. By referring Charlene Taveras to AASL, Mohamad has been entered to win an AASL National Conference grand prize package, which includes registration, airfare, and hotel accommodations.

AASL membership adopts new bylaws for the association

CHICAGO – Through a special election, the membership of the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) voted to adopt new bylaws for the association. The adoption allows the association to move forward with structural changes to its leadership. The AASL Bylaws can be viewed on the AASL website at www.ala.org/aasl/bylaws

Jamie Becker selected as 2020 AASL Emerging Leader

CHICAGO – Jamie Becker has been selected as one of two participants sponsored by the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) in the American Library Association’s (ALA) 2020 Emerging Leaders program. The Emerging Leaders program enables newer library workers from across the country to participate in problem-solving work groups, network with peers, and have an opportunity to serve the profession in a leadership capacity. Becker and Nick Weingardt will join 48 of their peers as the program kicks off at the 2020 ALA Midwinter Meeting in Philadelphia.
