CHICAGO – The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) 16th National Conference & Exhibition wrapped up in Hartford, Conn., on Nov. 17, but the learning and conversation continues on AASL’s professional development repository, eCOLLAB. A selection of recorded concurrent sessions and related handouts are now available for view by AASL members and eCOLLAB subscribers. With these additional resources, AASL eCOLLAB offers more than 155 webcasts and podcasts for on-demand learning.

Nation’s school library leaders meet in Hartford, Conn. to discuss the evolving role of U.S. school library programs

CHICAGO – As schools integrate technologies to meet college and career readiness standards, it becomes increasingly important for educational decision makers to recognize the value of school libraries and librarians in ensuring 21st century literacy skills. School librarians from across the country will meet from Nov. 14 – 17, in Hartford, Conn., for the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) 16th National Conference & Exhibition to explore their roles as education leaders within a diverse academic landscape.

AASL seeks hosts for Fall Forum satellite sites

CHICAGO – The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) will once again host a hybrid presentation of its biennial national institute, the Fall Forum, in 2014. As part of the presentation, three or four satellite sites across the country will present a live broadcast of events taking place Oct. 17-18, in St. Louis. Universities, school districts, intermediate education units or similar locations interested in hosting as a satellite site are invited to submit a one-page statement describing their qualifications to AASL by Dec. 10, 2013.

Mobile app keeps AASL13 information at attendees’ fingertips

CHICAGO – Attendees of the American Association of School Librarian’s (AASL) 16th National Conference & Exhibition can plan their conference schedule at home or on the go with the new AASL13 Mobile App.  The app and companion registration dashboard syncs user data so updates to a schedule can be made and accessed via a person’s laptop or mobile device.  For more information on features and how to download the mobile app, visit national.aasl.org/mobile-app.

AASL13 storytellers to weave flights of fancy

CHICAGO — Three master storytellers will share their craft as part of the American Association of School Librarians’ (AASL) 16th National Conference & Exhibition taking place Nov. 14-17, 2013, in Hartford, Conn. Performers Carol Birch, Bill Harley and Valerie Tutson will appear at the storytelling festival and help attendees celebrate the everyday and fantastic in a casual evening of traditional and original tales. Admission to the festival is included in the price of registration, and a Q&A and book signing will follow the performance.

Meet your favorite AASL authors and purchase their books at AASL13

CHICAGO – Attendees of the American Association of School Librarians’ (AASL) 16th National Conference & Exhibition will have the opportunity to purchase AASL’s newest publications from the exhibit hall bookstore while onsite in Hartford, Conn. In addition, selected authors of these publications will be on hand to sign copies of their book during the conference taking place Nov. 14-17. Advance registration rates for AASL13 end October 17

CHICAGO – The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) encourages members planning to register for the AASL 16th National Conference & Exhibition to do so at national.aasl.org/registration before the Oct. 17 advance registration deadline. On Oct. 18, registration rates will be raised $50. The conference, themed “Rising to the Challenge,” will be held Nov. 14-17, 2013, in Hartford, Conn., and is the only national conference dedicated solely to the needs of school librarians and their roles as educational leaders.

Voting period opens to name the AASL13 conference daily

CHICAGO – Four finalists have been chosen in the contest to name the American Association of School Librarians’ (AASL) 16th National Conference & Exhibition on-site daily newspaper. AASL members and conference attendees can now vote at national.aasl.org/daily-contest for one of the following names:

AASL13’s One Book, One Conference gets the right things done

CHICAGO — The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) national conference committee has named “18 Minutes: Find Your Focus, Master Distraction, and Get the Right Things Done” as the One Book, One Conference read for the AASL 16th National Conference & Exhibition. Written by closing general session speaker, Peter Bregman, the book outlines a three-step process for prioritizing a 9 hour workday which takes only 18 minutes.
