CHICAGO –   Libba Bray and Shane W. Evans are set to appear at a premier author event taking place during the AASL 16th National Conference & Exhibition in Hartford, Conn.  At the Author Banquet on Nov. 15, conference attendees will enjoy a delicious meal and learn of the inspiration behind Bray’s and Evans' award-winning books. Share coffee and conversation with graphic novel authors at AASL13

CHICAGO –   Five author/illustrators will share the creative process behind the exciting genre of graphic novels during the Author Breakfast at the AASL 16th National Conference & Exhibition.  Attendees of the event, taking place Nov. 17, will enjoy breakfast with Faith Erin Hicks, Jennifer and Matthew Holm, Jarrett Krosoczka and Raina Telgemeier before being treated to a rousing live demonstration of the art of creating graphic novels.

AASL’s Educators of School Librarians Section opens call for papers

CHICAGO - The Educators of School Librarians Section (ESLS) of the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) invites submissions for papers on original research focusing on school library practice or school librarianship. Selected papers will be presented in a concurrent session at the AASL 16th National Conference & Exhibition to be held from Nov. 14-17, 2013 in Hartford, Conn. AASL opens call for best practice showcase proposals

CHICAGO — Attendees of the American Association of School Librarians' (AASL) 16th National Conference & Exhibition will once again get a taste of current programs that are leading the way in school library program development during the conference's best practice showcase. The IDEAxCHANGE, formerly known as the Exploratorium, will be held Thursday afternoon of the conference taking place Nov. 14–17, 2013, in Hartford, Conn. AASL announces travel grants for first-time national conference attendees

CHICAGO — The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) is offering 30 grants for travel to its 16th National Conference & Exhibition, to be held  Nov. 14–17, 2013 in Hartford, Conn. 

The $750 grants for first-time attendees of the conference are sponsored by Bound To Stay Bound Books. Those interested in applying can access the application at national.aasl.org/btsb. The deadline for applications is 11:59 p.m. Central time on March 11, 2013. Late applications will not be considered.

AASL national conference website launched

CHICAGO — The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) has launched the website for the AASL 16th National Conference & Exhibition, “Rising to the Challenge.” The website, national.aasl.org, contains preliminary information on the conference including registration rates, preconference workshops, educational tours, general session speakers and author events.

AASL extends deadline for those impacted by Superstorm Sandy

CHICAGO — The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) has extended the deadline for AASL 16th National Conference & Exhibition concurrent session proposals to 11:59 p.m. Central time on Friday, Dec. 7, in consideration of school library professionals living in states impacted by Superstorm Sandy.  AASL recognizes the difficulties faced by its East Coast colleagues due to the damage inflicted by the recent hurricane and wishes to allow those wanting to participate in an AASL national conference the time needed to submit a proposal.
