PSAs - DIY @ your library, March 9 - 15, 2014
This Teen Tech Week™ (March 9 - 15, 2014), libraries will showcase all of the great non print resources and services that are available to teens and their families. This year's theme is “DIY @ your library” and libraries will leverage the do-it-yourself theme by offering access to maker spaces, coding classes online knitting clubs, and extend learning beyond the classroom where teens can explore, create and share content.
Why air Teen Tech Week Public Service Announcements (PSAs)? Studies indicated that young people are adept at downloading their favorite songs from the Internet or instant messaging with their friends, but the majority lack the critical thinking and information literacy skills needed to use online resources successfully for school and informational purposes. To gain the skills necessary to compete in today's networked world, teens need access to digital and online information — as well as trained professionals who can help them use these resources effectively, efficiently and ethically.
Tom Kenny, known as the voice of SpongeBob SquarePants, lends his support to teens, libraries, and the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), through downloadable, broadcast quality, :10, :15, :20 and :30 second PSAs announcing Teen Tech Week, courtesy of Teen Tech Week Promotional Partner Galaxy Press. PSA scripts are also available for those radio stations that do not air pre-recorded PSAs.
