CHICAGO – The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) has issued an open call for author panelists to take part in concurrent sessions during its 2019 National Conference & Exhibition. The conference will take place Nov. 14-16, 2019, in Louisville, Kentucky, with concurrent sessions being held on Friday, Nov. 15, and Saturday, Nov. 16. More information is available at www.ala.org/aasl/authors.

For the 2019 conference, AASL has doubled its author concurrent session programming by offering eight primary grade-focused sessions and eight secondary grade-focused sessions. Publishers, publicists, or authors may suggest authors for the following topics identified by the conference committee chairs:

  • STEAM/STEM, Makerspaces, Coding
  • Graphic Novels
  • Feeding the Soul/Cooking with Learners
  • Keeping Learners Moving while Reading
  • Great Series to Motivate “Lost in the Middle Grade” Readers
  • Books for Nonreaders
  • Using YA Lit as a Conversation Starter for Difficult Topics
  • Helping Learners Become Readers and Writers
  • Immigration in Children’s Books
  • Interactive Read-alouds
  • Nonfiction Books Learners Will Yearn For
  • Using Literature as a Spark for Social Justice
  • Banned Books
  • Diversity

AASL also invites publishers, publicists, or authors to suggest a topic not included above and an author for the topic. The AASL national conference author chairs will review proposals and create sessions based on the submissions.

To be considered as a panelist for a concurrent session, the author or their publisher must be an exhibitor at the 2019 AASL National Conference & Exhibition. Publishers, publicists, or authors may submit proposals prior to booking booth space, but space must be contracted before an author is confirmed as a concurrent session panelist.

Submissions will be accepted via an online form. Email, mail or fax submissions will not be accepted. The deadline to submit is Fri., Nov. 16, 2018, at noon Central.

All questions regarding author programming at the AASL National Conference & Exhibition should be directed to Jen Habley at jhabley@ala.org or (800) 545-2433, ext. 4383.
