CHICAGO – Anne Mlod is the 2018 recipient of the American Library Association (ALA) International Relations Committee's "Bogle-Pratt International Library Travel Fund."
An award of $1,000 is given to an ALA member to attend their first international conference. The Bogle Memorial Fund and the Pratt Institute School of Information and Library Science will provide a $1,000 cash award for Ms. Mlod to attend her first international conference in Istanbul, Turkey.
The award is in recognition of Sarah Comly Norris Bogle, a prominent U.S. librarian who made notable contributions to children’s librarianship, international library service and library education.
Mlod is a school librarian at Genesee Elementary School in Auburn, New York. In 2016, Mlod was the first elementary school librarian to be selected as a Fulbright Teachers for Global Classroom Fellow. The Fellowship included intensive online courses on global education, attendance at a Global Education Symposium in Washington, DC and a three-week field experience in the Philippines. Mlod also received a grant to conduct an Action Research Study on the effective use of library makerspaces, which will be complete by May 2018.
Bogle Pratt committee members remarked: “Anne shows promise for increased dialogue and engagement with colleagues both at a local and global level regarding libraries.”
Mlod is attending the International Association of School Librarians Annual Conference: Information Innovation and Impact of School Libraries in Istanbul, Turkey in May and will present a paper titled “The Impact of Action Research on Establishing an Effective Makerspace." After joining the International Association of School Librarians, “I feel membership in this organization and attendance at this International Conference is the missing link in connecting me with school librarians around the world. I plan to blog my experiences to share with my school and professional community as I did during my Fellowship experience in the Philippines."
Anne Mlod will be recognized during the International Librarians Reception at the 2018 American Library Association Annual Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana.
