BRYN MAWR, Pennsylvania — United for Libraries will present its Leaders Orientation program, “Cultivating Leaders and Building Effective Volunteer Boards for Trustees, Friends and Foundations,” from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 25 at the ALA Annual Conference in Orlando.
Trustees, friends of the library, foundations and library staff are invited to learn more about cultivating leaders and building effective volunteer boards to support their libraries. A panel discussion will feature Dr. Julie Todaro (incoming ALA president), Eli Mina (ALA parliamentarian) and Dr. Mark Freeman (facilitator with a Certificate in Leadership Practice). Roundtable discussions will following on how not to run a board meeting, roles and responsibilities of a leader, and building an engaged and effective board.
"This United for Libraries program is essential for anyone who has been elected to a board of directors or has become a committee chair for their library trustees, friends or foundations,” said United for Libraries President Susan Schmidt. “If you are part of your library's staff, this is an opportunity to understand what your volunteers should or should not be doing. When you becomes a leader in a nonprofit organization, understanding parliamentary procedures, how to create a useful agenda, and how to reach your goal, are key elements to succeeding.”
The Leaders Orientation program will be held at the Rosen Centre Hotel, Salon 05/06. For more information about United for Libraries programs and events during the ALA Annual Conference, visit http://www.ala.org/united/events_conferences/annual.
