CHICAGO — The Library Leadership and Management Association (LLAMA) is offering three preconferences at the 2016 ALA Annual Conference on Friday, June 24, in Orlando, Florida.

Building Blocks for Library Space Planning – From Vision to Paper
This preconference will provide the necessary tools to complete a space planning process. Small groups will focus on a particular library space throughout the day and will learn elements of planning like big picture visioning and Personas and Journey Mapping. You will create a space needs program and diagramming adjacencies and develop a scale schematic floor plan. At the end of the day groups will present their solutions. Registrants are invited to submit a library program for the planning exercise, and registrants will each receive a copy of Building Blocks for Planning Functional Library Space. Lunch is on your own. 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m., June 24

Tour of Orlando Libraries
A full-day tour of the region’s newest and most innovative libraries that includes transportation, a light lunch and an opportunity to learn from architects and librarians about their building projects and experiences. The tour will highlight Orlando Public Library’s Melrose Center, a creativity and technology center expanding on traditional library services with video, photography and audio production studios, fabrication and simulation labs, and an interactive media wall. Motor coach transportation and a light lunch are provided. 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m., June 24

Evolve and Improve: Transforming the Contributions of Student Employees at Your Library
In this interactive preconference, participants will explore the role of student assistants in an academic library. Presenters will introduce innovative methods of managing student employees, including new approaches to hiring and recruitment; creative training methods and tools; professional skill development; and evaluation and performance reviews, including peer evaluations. Participants will be challenged to re-imagine the role student employees play in libraries and will leave with a plan to develop a robust student employment program.
noon - 4 p.m., June 24
