CHICAGO — How would you describe your relationship with your supervisor?  Is it collaborative?  Or, is it the dreaded top-down?  If yours is a top-down relationship, you may be at risk for feeling powerless, disengaged and ultimately ineffective.  Although you may not be able to change your boss, you can improve your relationship significantly by learning how to “Manage up.”  The Library Leadership and Management Association (LLAMA) will present “Managing Up--Strategies for Cultivating Effective Supervisor Relationships,” from 1:30 - 3 p.m. (Central time) on Wednesday, June 8.

This webinar will help you move away from “boss from hell” rants towards more effective and enjoyable collaborations by giving you insights into supervisor behaviors, needs and expectations; and presenting concrete actions you can take to influence your supervisor.

At the end of this webinar, participants will:

  • understand the value and importance of managing up for organizational effectiveness and personal career success;
  • learn why supervisors may make certain choices;
  • identify strategies that build productive and collegial relationships with direct supervisors;
  • understand the ethical limitations of these strategies; and
  • cultivate an appreciation for the effect one's behavior may have when in leadership or management positions.
