United for Libraries to present ‘Nuts & Bolts for Trustees, Friends and Foundations’ at Midwinter

BRYN MAWR, Pennsylvania - United for Libraries will present “Nuts & Bolts for Trustees, Friends and Foundations” from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 8 at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center, 156AB, during the ALA Midwinter Meeting in Boston.

The popular, free Nuts & Bolts program will feature speakers addressing topics of interest to Trustees, Friends, Foundations and advocates. Those planning to attend the Nuts & Bolts program at the ALA Midwinter Meeting should RSVP to united@ala.org.

Speakers include Nancy Dowd, senior manager at NoveList, and New York Times bestselling author William Martin.

Nancy Dowd is the co-author of ALA Edition’s “Bite-Sized Marketing: Realistic Solutions for Overworked Librarians.” She develops NoveList’s product LibraryAware. She writes for “Library Journal” and the “The M Word” blog, and has spoken on the topic of marketing throughout the U.S. and in Canada and in Europe. In her previous position as director of marketing for the New Jersey State Library, she earned many marketing awards, including the prestigious John Cotton Dana Award. 

William Martin is vice president of the Associates of the Boston Public Library. In addition to 10 novels, he has also written an award-winning PBS documentary.  He was the recipient of the 2005 New England Book Award, given to "an author whose body of work stands as a significant contribution to the culture of the region." His latest novel is "The Lincoln Letters." As vice-president of the Associates of the Boston Public Library, he helps raises funds for conservation and education, and runs the annual Literary Lights banquet, which honors New England authors.

Roundtable discussions will be held on fundraising, marketing, social media and more.
