CHICAGO — The Library Leadership and Management Association (LLAMA) will present the fifth LLAMA Career Institute – What Matters, A Workshop for Developing and Articulating Our Values from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, during the American Library Association’s 2016 Midwinter Meeting in Boston.

Working collaboratively through a variety of scenarios, participants will learn to identify and rank personal, professional and institutional values and understand how values and actions impact culture and decision-making in our profession and our library organizations.  Participants will also learn how to share their institution's values in a compelling way to a diverse set of internal and external stakeholders.

Presenters include Miguel A. Figueroa, director of the Center for the Future of Libraries (http://www.ala.org/transforminglibraries/future, a new ALA initiative that identifies trends in libraries and the communities they serve, and helps library professionals innovatively shape their future; and Jessamyn West (http://jessamyn.info/), a librarian and community technologist, who helps manage the Internet Archive’s Open Library project. She also works with small libraries and businesses in leveraging technology to solve problems.

The institute is open to leaders at all levels and all types of organizations, and registration prior to Dec. 1 is recommended as space is limited.  Registration fees include workshop materials, a networking lunch and light refreshments:

  • $180 for LLAMA Divisional Members (use code “LLAMA2016” when registering);
  • $230 for ALA members
  • $130 for Other Members (Retired, Student, Trustee, Non-Salaried, Support Staff)
