eCourse: Planning and preparing for RDA

CHICAGO — ALA Publishing eLearning announces a new iteration of its popular eCourse, Planning and Preparing for RDA: Resource Description and Access eCourse. Roman S. Panchyshyn will serve as the instructor for a four-week facilitated eCourse starting on Oct. 26, 2015.
There are already many catalog records “in the wild” that are compliant with RDA: Resource Description and Access. Now is the perfect time for anyone involved in cataloging and technical services to prepare and put plans in place for implementing RDA. An active participant in development of the RDA instructions, Roman S. Panchyshyn will lead this four-week, asynchronous eCourse to help you get started.
After completing this eCourse, participants will be able to:
- explain the conceptual difference between AACR2 and RDA;
- craft cataloging policies and procedures;
- create a staff training plan;
- draft an RDA implementation plan;
- craft strategies for communicating about RDA throughout the library.

About the Instructor
Roman S. Panchyshyn is catalog librarian and assistant professor at Kent State University Libraries. He is co-author of the article “Understanding the Why: A Case Study in Managing the RDA Implementation” (2014). He has published on the topic of RDA display issues and has a forthcoming article on RDA Enrichment scheduled for publication in January 2015. He serves as co-chair of the ALA ALCTS Catalog Management Interest Group, as vice-chair of the OhioLINK Database Management and Standards Committee (DMS) and as co-coordinator of the NACO Ohio Funnel. His research interests include RDA and technical services staff training.
Registration for facilitated eCourse, which begins on Oct. 26, 2015, can be purchased at the ALA Store. Participants in this course will need regular access to a computer with an internet connection for online message board participation, viewing online video, listening to streaming audio (MP3 files), and downloading and viewing PDF and PowerPoint files.
