CHICAGO — The American Library Association (ALA) has chosen Timothy Ryan Dewysockie of Berlin, New Jersey, as the 2015 Tom and Roberta Drewes Scholarship recipient.
The $3,000 scholarship is awarded to a library support staff worker who is pursuing a master’s degree in library and information science.
Dewysockie said libraries have always been an integral part of his life. He started working at his neighborhood public library when he was 16 years old. Nine years later, he now works as a library assistant in that same library system. One reference wrote, “It’s been a privilege to meet him as a somewhat shy high school student and watch him develop into a young man with ambition, talent and focus. He will make an outstanding librarian.”
Dewysockie says that his ideal work environment is one in which he is always learning, growing and overcoming challenges. His hope is to be able to help those that he serves to grow as he has grown. One reference wrote, “he knows exactly what makes a library shine… knowledge of the collection, strong customer service, and the willingness to adapt and learn new skills. He has the intellect, drive, and solid knowledge to make a difference in the world of information services.”
Dewysockie will be attending the Drexel University in Philadelphia.
