CHICAGO —The brand new installment of the highly successful M-Libraries series published by Facet Publishing, “M-Libraries 5: From Devices to People,” is now available through the ALA Store. Edited by Gill Needham and Mohamed Ally, this collection brings together cutting-edge international contributions from the leading experts, practitioners and researchers in the field. Based on the proceedings of the Fifth International M-Libraries Conference held at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, it showcases the diversity of innovative and inspiring work that libraries are doing across the world to interact with their users and deliver resources via mobile and handheld devices. Featuring contributions from international researchers, educators, technical developers, managers and library professionals, this book explores such important themes as:

  • best practice for the use of mobile technologies in libraries;
  • challenges and strategies involved in embracing mobile innovation for libraries;
  • the impact of ubiquitous and wearable technologies on the future of libraries;
  • using mobile technologies to harness the future of teaching and learning;
  • how mobile technologies enhance information access for all and pursue the millennium development goals.

Needham is currently associate director (Information Management and Innovation) at the Open University Library. Since joining the Open University she has led strategic work in areas such as information literacy, flexible learner support and library systems development and has authored a number of Open University courses. She was awarded a National Teaching Fellowship by the Higher Education Academy in 2006.

Ally is professor in the Centre for Distance Education and Researcher in the Technology Enhanced Knowledge Research Institute (TEKRI) at Athabasca University in Canada. He is past-president of the International Federation of Training and Development Organizations (IFTDO) and is one of the founding directors of the International Association of Mobile Learning (IamLearn).
