CHICAGO — The American Library Association (ALA) has selected Eliza Bettinger of Milwaukee as the 2015 Christopher Hoy/ERT Scholarship recipient.

The scholarship was named for a longtime ALA staff member who directed the ALA Conference Services Office for more than 20 years. This scholarship fund was established with donations from Christopher J. Hoy and the Exhibits Round Table (ERT) to honor his memory. The $5,000 scholarship is awarded to a person pursuing a master's degree in library and information studies.

Bettinger, who currently works as a specialist in spatial data and geographic information systems at the American Geographical Society Library of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, has already made a significant impact on the library.  One reference wrote that “she has proven herself to be a highly valued member of the library staff.”

Bettinger says the driving force of her career has been the desire to make information more accessible, understandable and usable.  One reference wrote, “she is precisely the kind of leader and creative thinker the library profession needs as we move headlong into the digital age.”

Bettinger is attending the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
