CHICAGO – ALA Graphics’ new catalog is here, filled with new products to keep library patrons and students excited about reading and learning all year long. In celebration of her 10th birthday, Bad Kitty makes her second poster appearance, with a helpful reminder: “Return your books when they’re due.” Also available as a bookmark, everyone’s favorite cranky cat encourages library visitors of all ages to return their materials on time—because Bad Kitty is watching! And you can create a custom Bad Kitty READ poster with a new digital download, allowing fans to pose with their favorite book. The Bad Kitty set, which includes the new poster and bookmark along with the original Bad Kitty items, is the perfect way to demonstrate the proper care for library materials.
New celebrity READ posters will bring some serious star power to your library. The multi-talented Jane Lynch is an actress, singer, playwright and author. She has appeared in more than 70 films and videos, including notable performances in “Best in Show,” “Julie and Julia,” and as Sue Sylvester on “Glee.” Her READ poster inspires everyone in the library to explore your collection. Speaking of inspiration, goalkeeper Tim Howard’s remarkable performance on the U.S. national team during the 2014 World Cup, during which he saved a record-breaking 16 shots, has won him scores of new fans. His READ poster reminds library users that hard work and perseverance will help them reach their goals.
Eye-catching illustrations, both current and classic, are spotlighted on several new products. Beloved poet, playwright, performer, recording artist, and illustrator Shel Silverstein’s children’s books have sold over 35 million copies in the United States alone and have been translated into 41 foreign languages. A new poster and bookmark, which feature Shel’s poems “Every Thing On It” and “Ouch!”, respectively, will have curious kids pointing out everything that’s piled into his signature black and white art. They’re ideal for celebrating National Poetry Month in April and reading throughout the year. Flora and Ulysses, stars of the eponymous 2014 Newbery Medal-winning book by Kate DiCamillo, praise the power of reading on a new poster and bookmark illustrated by K. G. Campbell. The adventure continues with a new poster and bookmark featuring Danny Dragonbreath, who urges young patrons to “READ until smoke comes out of your nose,” advice that’s sure to make them laugh.
School libraries transform learning every day by empowering students with the skills to think critically, create and share new knowledge with others, and grow as individuals. In 2015, the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) celebrates the 30th Anniversary of School Library Month with a message that reflects the inaugural theme, “Your School Library: Where Learning Never Ends.” Use the bookmark and poster to celebrate school libraries this April and throughout the year.
ALA Graphics supports the mission of the American Library Association through the creation and distribution of quality products promoting libraries, literacy, and reading.
