United for Libraries honors Gordon and Laverne Taylor with Major Benefactor Citation
For Immediate Release
PHILADELPHIA – United for Libraries, in conjunction with the Metropolitan Library System (Oklahoma City, Okla.) and its Library Endowment Trust, honored the late Gordon and LaVerne Taylor with its Major Benefactor Citation for their contributions to the Belle Isle Library.
When longtime library supporter LaVerne Taylor died in 2012, she made an unprecedented gift to the Belle Isle Library, a branch of the Metropolitan Library System, through the Library Endowment Trust. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon, who is also recognized for the gift, the largest the library system has received in its history. So far the Library Endowment Trust has received approximately $1.4 million from the estate.
The Major Benefactor Citation is awarded by United for Libraries to recognize individuals, families or corporations that have made major gifts to libraries. For more information, visit www.ala.org/united/grants_awards/benefactor.
