Registration open for YALSA’s 2014 YA Literature Symposium

CHICAGO — The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) opened registration for its fourth Young Adult Literature Symposium, Nov. 14–16, at the Hyatt Regency Austin in Austin, Texas. Early bird pricing begins at $195 for YALSA members, Texas Library Association and Texas Association of School Librarians Members; registration is available at www.ala.org/yalitsymposium.The 2014 theme is “Keeping it Real: Finding the True Teen Experience in YA Literature.”
Registration for the symposium includes a welcome reception on Friday night sponsored by HarperCollins, educational sessions on Saturday and Sunday, coffee breaks on Saturday and Sunday, a reception on Saturday evening featuring over 45 YA authors and a general closing session with lunch on Sunday. Early bird registration rates
- $195 for YALSA members and Texas Library Association and Texas Association of School Librarians Members;
- $245 for ALA personal members;
- $300 for nonmembers; and
- $50 for students, who must be enrolled full-time in a library and information studies program.
Rooms at the Hyatt Regency Austin are offered for a limited time at a special rate for registrants of $124 per night.
YALSA will also offer pre-symposium special events that require additional registration on Friday, including:
- A half-day forum on using nonfiction to motivate readers ($69);
- A half-day forum on rugged characters in YA books ($69); and
- A half-day forum on YA lit programming ($69);
In addition, symposium attendees can register for the Teens’ Top Ten Author Luncheon on Saturday, featuring Julie Kagawa, Marissa Meyer, Lauren Oliver, and Maggie Stiefvater and a Friday evening boat tour of Lady Bird Lake. Tickets for the luncheon cost $46 and the boat tour cost $40.
