CHICAGO — The Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) announces that Jennifer Castaldo, electronic resources manager/distance education librarian at the Johns Hopkins University, is the recipient of the 2013 First Step Award-A Wiley Professional Development Grant presented by the ALCTS Continuing Resources Section.  The award will be presented on Sunday, June 30, at the ALCTS Awards Ceremony during the 2013 American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference in Chicago.

Castaldo started with continuing resources as an electronic resources intern at Duke University.  She began her professional career as distance education librarian in 2008 at Johns Hopkins University, working with a completely online library in the entrepreneurial library program.  In 2010, she became the electronic resources manager/distance education librarian at Johns Hopkins, where she is the sole librarian managing all of the resources for the Excelsior College Library.  Castaldo expressed a strong desire to network with, and learn from, other librarians at ALA conferences and become involved similarly in the ALCTS Continuing Resources Section.

She graduated from the State University of New York College at Genesco, with a bachelor’s in English, Secondary Education Concentration. She earned her Master of Science in Library Science from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2008.

John Wiley & Sons sponsors this $1,500 grant, which offers librarians new to the serials field an opportunity to broaden their perspective by attending an ALA Annual Conference and by encouraging professional growth through participation in ALCTS Continuing Resources Section activities.

The Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) is the national association for information providers who work in collections and technical services, such as acquisitions, cataloging, collection development, preservation and continuing resources in digital and print formats.

ALCTS is a division of the American Library Association.
