CHICAGO — The ALA International Relations Office (IRO) announces the launch of the international version of AL Direct, ALA’s popular and informative electronic newsletter sent weekly to ALA members and other subscribers. IRO’s ALA International Direct will be sent electronically bimonthly to ALA's 2,000 plus international members in over 115 countries and anyone interested in subscribing.
ALA International Direct will focus on ALA’s international members and those interested in international issues and trends, and will feature news about libraries and librarians around the world, ALA activities and products, conferences and institutes, continuing education opportunities, awards and grants, international exchanges, and much more. More importantly, ALA International Direct will provide information to international librarians on how to get involved in ALA and make the most of all that the association offers.
“ALA is especially proud of our international members and the rich experience and perspective they bring to the association and to libraries around the world. We’re constantly looking at ways to overcome the barriers of distance, and to make it easier for international members to benefit from – and contribute to- the important work we do. The new international version of AL direct will make our world a little smaller...” stated Keith Fiels, ALA executive director.
We invite international librarians and anyone interested in international issues to subscribe and share this e-newsletter, as well as participate by sending news articles and, information about new activities and projects taking place at their libraries. If you would like a story featured on ALA International Direct, please contact the International Relations Office at firstname.lastname@example.org.
