CHICAGO — Rebecca Kate Miller is the 2012 recipient of the American Library Association (ALA) International Relations Committee's "Bogle-Pratt International Library Travel Fund."
The Bogle Memorial Fund and the Pratt Institute School of Information and Library Science will provide a $1,000 cash award for Miller to attend her first international conference in Glasgow, Scotland.
The award is in recognition of Sarah Comly Norris Bogle, a prominent U.S. librarian who made notable contributions to international library service.
Rebecca Miller is the information literacy coordinator and college librarian for science, life sciences and engineering research and institutional services at Virginia Tech. Miller attended the Librarians’ Information Literacy Annual Conference (LILAC) in Glasgow, Scotland. At the conference she presented a paper titled “Aligning Information Literacy with Curricular Standards and Engaging Students: A Case Study of Social Information in Dietetics.” Upon her return from Glasgow, she initiated collaborative projects with faculty and students in Virginia Tech’s Department of Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise. Her paper will also be submitted for a future issue of the Journal of Information Literacy, the journal associated with LILAC.
“The 2012 Bogle-Pratt Award committee had a very difficult choice to make, there were so many excellent candidates. However we are pleased to announce that Rebecca Kate Miller was chosen because of her professional passion for information literacy and her decision to attend and present at the Librarians’ Annual Information Literacy Conference (LILAC) in Glasgow, a good match for her career goals. We are sure that at the LILAC conference Rebecca will be able to share her expertise and gain from the knowledge of her colleagues from other countries,” said Susan Schnuer, Bogle Pratt Committee Chair. Congratulations Rebecca!
Miller will be recognized during the International Librarians Reception at ALA Annual Conference in Anaheim, Calif.
