CHICAGO —ALA TechSource will continue its series of ALA Conference Webinars with the ALA TechSource 2012 Annual Tech Wrap-Up. At 2:30 p.m. Eastern time on Friday, June 29, an expert panel will provide an overview of the ALA Annual Conference from a technology perspective. Register today for this free event.
Whether you are unable to make it to Anaheim or you are going but won't have enough time to make it to every tech event you want to experience, David Lee King, Marshall Breeding and Sue Polanka will fill you in on what they saw, what you might have missed and what it all means for the future of libraries. The panel will analyze and discuss what they learned and what trends stood out at the conference.
It is a thrill to have these three presenters provide their unique insight!
- David Lee King is the digital branch and services manager at the Topeka and Shawnee County (Kan.) Public Library, where he plans for, implements and experiments with emerging technology trends. He speaks internationally about emerging trends, website usability and management, digital experience planning and managing techie staff and has been published in many library-related journals. He was named a Library Journal Mover and Shaker for 2008 and recently published his first book, "Designing the Digital Experience." King writes the Outside/In column in American Libraries magazine with Michael Porter and maintains a blog at www.davidleeking.com
- Marshall Breeding serves as the director for innovative technologies and research for the Vanderbilt University Libraries in Nashville, Tenn. and is the executive director of the Vanderbilt Television News Archive, a large-scale archive of digital video content. He is the creator and editor of Library Technology Guides and the lib-web-cats online directory of libraries on the Web. His monthly column “Systems Librarian” appears in Computers in Libraries; he is the editor for Smart Libraries Newsletter published by the American Library Association. He regularly teaches workshops and gives presentations at library conferences on a wide range of topics.
- Sue Polanka created the award-winning blog No Shelf Required about the issues surrounding e-books for librarians and publishers. The blog led to the 2011 publication of ALA Edition's best-selling "No Shelf Required: E-books in Libraries." Polanka is the head of reference and instruction at the Wright State University Libraries in Dayton, Ohio and the vice president/president elect of the Academic Library Association of Ohio. She has served on Booklist’s Reference Books Bulletin Editorial Board for more than 10 years and as chair from 2007 to 2010. Her column on electronic reference, "Off The Shelf," appears quarterly in Booklist. She was named a Library Journal 2011 Mover and Shaker for her work with e-books.
There will be a Q and A with panelists following the presentation.
