CHICAGO — "The Outsiders" is older than your average teen librarian, but its popularity endures among teen readers. What will be "The Outsiders" of 2057? Share your nominees in Books We’ll Still Talk about 45 Years from Now, a half-day preconference hosted by the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. on June 22 in Anaheim, Calif., before the ALA Annual Conference. Authors Jacqueline Woodson and Ally Condie will share insights during this session, moderated by Rollie Welch.
All attendees will receive a reading list in advance to evaluate dozens of YA books, using strategies drawn from YALSA’s award and selection list committees. Attendees will explore the styles and themes of YA fiction through recent years and pick the one book that will have staying power and be read 45 years from now. Tickets for this half-day preconference cost $129 and include light refreshments.
