CHICAGO — Join the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) in honoring Susan Cooper, winner of the 2012 Margaret A. Edwards Award for the five books of The Dark Is Rising Sequence, at the Margaret A. Edwards Luncheon at noon on Saturday, June 23 at the ALA Annual Conference in Anaheim, Calif. Cooper will speak about her books and writing for children and teens after a sit-down luncheon. The three-course luncheon costs $65; tickets must be bought in advance through www.alaannual.org. Tickets will be available until June 1 and tickets will not be available onsite.  The award is sponsored by School Library Journal.

The Dark Is Rising Sequence ("Over Sea, Under Stone"; "The Dark Is Rising"; "Greenwitch"; "The Grey King"; and "Silver on the Tree") chronicles the adventures of Will Stanton, the last of the immortal Old Ones, as he acquires the Things of Power for the Light in its climactic battle with the Dark. Originally published between 1966 and 1977 by Margaret K. McElderry Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers, Cooper’s masterwork has served as an inspiration to generations of fantasy writers and readers.
