Begun in 2003 as a training initiative from the ALA Office for Diversity, the Diversity Leadership Institute examined the concepts of diversity and leadership and provided resources to assist individuals in furthering diversity. The Institute was designed to develop a cadre of enlightened library and information professionals who recognize and respect diversity leadership as a basic tenet of our profession and within society overall. Participants were given concrete tools to make a difference within their organizations and within the profession, regardless of where they are in an organization.
As diversity leadership becomes more critical for our profession and our institutions and with new opportunities for individuals to participate in learning no matter where they are, the ALA Office for Diversity is excited to provide the valuable content of the Diversity Leadership Institute in an online format.
