Clifford Lynch named 2012 LITA/Library Hi Tech Award winner

CHICAGO – Clifford Lynch has been named the winner of the 2012 LITA/Library Hi Tech award for Outstanding Communication in Library and Information Technology. Emerald Group Publishing Limited and the Library and Information Technology Association (LITA) sponsor the award.
The award recognizes outstanding persons or institutions for their long-term contributions in the area of library and information science technology and its application. It consists of $1,000 and a certificate of merit.
Art Hendricks, LITA/Hi Tech Award Committee chair, said, “Arguably few people have done more to disseminate ideas and deepen our knowledge about the digital future than Clifford Lynch.”
Dr. Lynch has been the executive director of the Coalition for Networked Information (CNI) since 1997. CNI, jointly sponsored by the Association of Research Libraries and EDUCAUSE, includes about 200 member organizations concerned with the intelligent uses of information technology to enhance scholarship and intellectual life.
Dr. Lynch holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley, where he is an adjunct professor in the School of Information. Prior to joining CNI, Dr. Lynch spent 18 years in the Office of the President at UC Berkeley, including 10 years as Director of Library Automation.
He is a past president of the American Society for Information Science and Technology (and recipient of their Award of Merit), a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and of the National Information Standards Organization. In 2011 he was appointed co-chair of the National Academies Board on Research Data and Information. He serves on numerous advisory boards and visiting committees and is much sought as a speaker at conferences.
