CHICAGO – Librarians looking for a new ways to promote National Library Week are encouraged to check out a new list of programming ideas generated by fellow librarians.

Librarians submitted programming ideas at the ALA Midwinter Meeting in Dallas and through an online form for a  chance to win a set of National Library Week promotional materials from ALA Graphics.   Alexis Caudell of the Mitchell (Ind.) Community Public Library was selected as the winner. To read Caudell's winning idea and other promotional ideas submitted by public, school, academic and special librarians visit the National Library Week promotional ideas page.

All programs are built around the 2012 National Library Week theme, You belong @ your library. Additional ideas were submitted by the National Library Week Subcommittee of the Public Awareness Committee.

Librarians are also encouraged to check out other resources on the National Library Week website, including two new audio publics service announcements (PSAs).

Other resources on the site include print, web and video PSAs featuring author, TV host and Honorary Chair of National Library Week, Brad Meltzer. All PSAs are available for download, and the print PSA is also available customization for libraries.

Other promotional materials include a sample op-ed, proclamation, press release and scripts for use in radio ads. All incorporate the 2012 National Library Week theme, You belong @ your library.

National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April. It is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation’s libraries and librarians and to promote library use.

The Campaign for America’s Libraries (www.ala.org/@yourlibrary) is ALA’s public awareness campaign that promotes the value of libraries and librarians. Thousands of libraries of all types – across the country and around the globe - use the Campaign’s @ your library® brand. The Campaign is made possible by ALA’s Library Champions.
