New session of Teaching Information Literacy to College Students eCourse begins in January

CHICAGO - By popular demand, ALA Editions announces a new session of Joanna Burkhardt's facilitated eCourse on Teaching Information Literacy to College Students. Burkhardt, professor and head librarian at the University of Rhode Island branch libraries and co-author of "Teaching Information Literacy: 50 Standards-Based Exercises for College Students," will serve as the instructor for this three-week facilitated eCourse, which starts on Jan. 9, 2012.
The more information overload becomes the norm, the more crucial it is for college students to understand the quality and organization of information. In this course, Joanna Burkhardt draws from her best-selling book "Teaching Information Literacy: 50 Standards-Based Exercises for College Students" to show you how to create challenging, engaging lessons and exercises that will give college students the foundation they need. Course participants receive an e-copy of the book, in addition to three weeks of facilitated discussion, readings and course exercises.

Joanna M. Burkhardt is professor and head librarian at the University of Rhode Island (URI) branch libraries in Providence and Narragansett. She coordinates the information literacy program at the branches and teaches sections of URI’s course in information literacy. She has taught online courses for the Association of College and Research Libraries.
Registration for this ALA Editions facilitated eCourse, which begins on Jan. 9, 2012, can be purchased at the ALA Store. Participants in this course will need regular access to a computer with an Internet connection for online message board participation, viewing online video, listening to streaming audio (MP3 files), and downloading and viewing PDF and PowerPoint files.
