CHICAGO — ALA TechSource announces the latest in its series of Online Workshops -- Using Technology in Library Management: Skills for More Efficient Administration and Communication, with Kenley Neufeld.
From staff supervision to budgets, the work of the library administrator is never done. In this workshop, library director and technology expert Kenley Neufeld offers simple, practical steps for using free or low-cost technology to help make library administration and communication with staff more effective and efficient. You’ll learn to implement new communication tools, use cloud-based tools such as Google Docs for document collaboration, solve problems using social media and manage stress for more effective listening and communication.
Topics covered in this workshop include:
Session 1: Better Communication through Technology
- Communicating via text and instant message and using a smartphone
- Integrating around Google: Using Google Voice, Gmail, Google Docs and other Google Tools
- Staying connected with tools like GroupMe, Boxcar, Twitter and Facebook
- How to use these tools to stay informed
Session 2: Increasing Your Efficiency as a Manager
- Using calendar tools like Google Calendar, Doodle and RTM
- Making collaboration easier with Google Docs
- Using Dropbox: A lifesaver
Kenley Neufeld is the library director at Santa Barbara City College. As an active member of the American Library Association, Kenley has been chair of the Community and Junior College Libraries Section of ACRL and chair of ALA Committee on Education, in addition to numerous other committees. Kenley has recently received the Santa Barbara City College Faculty Excellence Award for 2008. In 1997 he was one of 25 librarians selected for the ALA Emerging Leaders Institute.
