Hakala-Ausperk is the deputy director of the Cleveland Heights–University Heights (Ohio) Public Library. A 25-year public library veteran, she is also an adjunct faculty member of Kent State University’s School of Library and Information Science and has been a guest editor and author for ALA/APA’s Library Worklife.
