CHICAGO - "Discover," "explore," "learn" and "read" are all key words in the library lexicon. Recently, the library at Zayed University of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, brought these words to life in a new poster series designed to showcase the university library.
Brightly colored posters and bookmarks encourage students to discover, explore, learn and read in both English and Arabic. Bookmarks also include quotations about the value of these concepts and the importance of libraries in education.
Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al Nahyan, former president of the United Arab Emirates, founded Zayed University in 1998 as a place where Emirati women could study an American-based curriculum. Members of the diverse library staff hail from 15 different countries.
This is not the first time the library has used the @ your library brand in its promotions. In 2009, the library celebrated National Library Week by introducing the library’s new mascot - a camel - and encouraging students to enter its “Name the camel @ your library” contest. Students submitted more than 200 potential names, with Rahal - “traveler” in Arabic - winning out.
