CHICAGO - American Library Association Executive Director Keith Michael Fiels delivered a  speech during National Library Week (April 11-17) about the value of libraries and librarians.  Part one of the video can be viewed by visiting Visibility @ your library, the blog of the ALA Public Information Office (PIO).

“Libraries are, quite simply, the embodiment of democracy,” said Fiels. “In a society where mass media dominates, the library is a place where you can find out who you are by pursuing your own interests and your own passions.”

Fiels also discussed how Americans are turning to their libraries in ever larger numbers for access to resources, for employment, continuing education, and government services during tough economic times.
