CHICAGO — ALA Editions announces a new workshop, Copyright for K–12 Librarians and Educators with Carrie Russell. This 90-minute workshop will take place on Thursday, April 11 at 2:30 p.m. Eastern time/1:30 p.m. Central time/12:30 p.m. Mountain time/11:30 a.m. Pacific time.
- The purpose of copyright law
- The special status of non-profit educational institutions and libraries in copyright law
- Librarians’ and educators’ professional roles regarding copyright
- Fair use and why it is effective in the digital environment
Registration for this ALA Editions Workshop is available on the ALA Store. Registration is available at both the individual and group rates. The workshop takes place on Thursday, April 11 at 2:30 p.m. Eastern time/1:30 p.m. Central time/12:30 p.m. Mountain time/11:30 a.m. Pacific time and last 90 minutes.
Carrie Russell is the author of “Complete Copyright: An Everyday Guide for Librarians and Complete Copyright for K–12 Librarians and Educators,” and copyright specialist for the Office for Information Technology Policy (OITP) of the American Library Association. With 15 years’ experience as a practicing librarian, Russell is a frequent speaker at state, regional, and national library conferences about the intricacies of copyright law. She is also the author of numerous articles on copyright and information policy that have appeared in such journals as Library Trends, Library Issues, Public Libraries, and Library Journal, and pens a popular monthly column “Carrie on ©” in School Library Journal.
