The Art of Selecting Digital Content to Preserve with Brenda Miller and Sarah Rhodes
This webinar focuses on the basic first questions we all must answer in order to begin developing a digital preservation program: What digital content do we have, and what are we responsible for preserving?
RDA Name Authorities—What's New and Different from AACR2 presented by Paul Frank
RDA enables a name authority record to be a much more dynamic tool in the bibliographic universe than an AACR2 authority record. Attributes or identifying characteristics of a name may be recorded in an RDA authority record, thereby enabling that authority record to serve current and future bibliographic needs in a much more dynamic way. This webinar will explore the differences between an AACR2 "two-dimensional" authority record and the much more robust and dynamic "three-dimensional" RDA authority record.
Principles of Classification with Lai Ma
Have you ever wondered why we have library classification systems and how they work? How does one system organize information compared to another?
This webinar will first cover basic, general principles of classification. It will also present the basic structure of the two main systems we use, Library of Congress Classification (LCC) and Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC), and will discuss their strengths and weaknesses.
RDA for the Non-Cataloger: What’s in It for You? presented by Lori Robare
Many libraries will be implementing RDA (Resource Description & Access) early in 2013. What will this mean for technical services and other library staff? How are RDA records different from AACR2 records? This webinar will provide a general overview of the changes in RDA, particularly those affecting staff in technical services and those noticeable in the OPAC. No knowledge of current cataloging standards or MARC required! While this webinar will not teach how to catalog with RDA, it will be a useful foundation for catalogers new to RDA as well as other library staff and administrators.
