CHICAGO — The American Library Association will honor OverDrive, the leading digital reading platform for libraries and schools, for its ongoing financial support of the Libraries Transform public awareness campaign.
OverDrive will be recognized as a lead Library Champion as the association honors its Library Champions at the association’s Midwinter Meeting.
Since the Libraries Transform campaign was launched in 2015, OverDrive has been an enthusiastic supporter of the campaign, which is designed to increase public awareness of the value, impact and services provided by libraries and library professionals.
ALA’s Library Champion program was launched by a select group of individual, corporate and foundation supporters who joined together to form a broad-based group to advocate for libraries, library workers, and the communities which benefit from libraries. When an individual, company or foundation supports The Libraries Transform Campaign, they make a positive impact on all types of libraries and the lives of their community members every single day. ALA considers supporters of the Campaign—Library Champions—among our greatest proponents.
ALA President Julie Todaro said, “The valuable contributions of our Library Champions provide the foundation for our efforts to promote the many ways our libraries transform communities. As a Lead Champion, OverDrive not only has played an important role in this transformation by fulfilling the needs of patrons for digital content, but it has also gone above and beyond by helping to sustain the mission of libraries with its generous donations. OverDrive is an expert at supporting our experts in the libraries.”
Founded in 1986, OverDrive has been on a mission to provide access to compelling, easy-to-use digital materials that reach, engage, and satisfy readers. Since 2002, OverDrive has worked with ALA member libraries and together with ALA is engaged in library advocacy with publishers and authors to provide fair lending models and costs.
“OverDrive is proud to stand alongside ALA as advocates for empowering our nation’s communities through the strength of our public and school libraries,” said OverDrive CEO Steve Potash. “Our vision to achieve a world enlightened by reading perfectly aligns with the mission of the ALA, and we’re honored to participate in programs such as the Libraries Transform campaign that have proven to be an effective way to truly impact our communities.”
